Bow Wave a collaborative work from Jennie Nayton and Clare Mcfarlane, was commissioned as part of the Percent for Art Scheme at the new Alkimos College development.
Inspired by the waves that push against the the historic 1969 Alkimos wreck, the design replicates the shape of a boat's prow and the movement it makes in the water as it propels through. Light Application was engaged for the supply and programming of a lighting solution to achieve this effect. We contracted Hiscocks electrical for the install. The sculpture is now lit by night casting eerie shadows reminiscent of the moon across a ship at sea.
The perforated layers of the artwork are illuminated by 45 pureLED Gem7s fixed in the base plate of the sculpture. With a combination of 2 different beam angles and subtle programming that slowly changes colour, the artwork is perfectly lit. Control is handled by a Colour Kinetics iPlayer 3 and Philips Dynalite relay fixture coupler.
Fabrication: Scape-ism
Art Consultant: Jenny Kerr
