"Round Trip" Artwork at Perth Busport

Opened in July 2016, Perth’s underground bus station on Wellington Street offers commuters an airport-like experience, including this set of three artworks by local artists Phil and Dawn Gamblen.

Travelers are treated to an entertaining travel themed light show, with coloured balls of light zipping around the perimeter of these ellipses. The lights interact with each other in a carefully choreographed manner, at times independent, but often moving together and synchronised in a dance-like performance. Just as the synchronicity becomes predictable, the lights then separate and travel independently with realistic momentum around the artwork as if the light were a physical object, moving with the effects of inertia and gravity at play. Light Application is proud to have worked closely with Phil and Dawn, supplying all lighting and control hardware and developing and programming the animation sequence to realise the artists vision.

Light Application’s enthusiasm to take on challenging and unique projects is commendable. Their professional, highly skilled staff enabled our concept for an animated lighting artwork at Perth BusPort to become a reality. Special thanks to Ben for his programming expertise, patience, and practical assistance – Brilliant!
