"Bee Hive" Artwork at Curtin University

Bee Hive forms part of Ngook Honey Story, an integrated public artwork led by Noongar artist Justin Martin in collaboration with Greg Stonehouse and Susan Milne.

The artwork tells the story of Aboriginal innovation through the gathering of honey. The Bee Hive sculpture hangs under the cantilevered concrete soffit, adjacent to a ceramically printed painting on the glass facade.

Milne & Stonewood worked with Light Application to implement and program the lighting for the Bee Hive. Color Kinetics Vaya Floods were mounted inside the installation to completely fill the artwork with warm natural colors to compliment the Bee Hive. The colour changes are very slow and gentle moving from honey colours through gold to red tones. Control of the lighting system is via a Color Kinetics iColor Player connected on a single DMX signal but the lights can produce a mix of colours.

Light Application are proud to have been a part of bringing Ngook Honey Story to life!
