"Sky Ribbon" Artwork for Gateway WA Project

As part of the Gateway WA infrastructure project, Light Application were engaged to assist with the design, and ultimately supply, of the lighting and control system for two major public artworks.

The Rick Vermey designed “Sky Ribbon” consists of over 220 pole mounted shield shaped forms mounted on three bridge structures located at the Tonkin Hwy/Leach Hwy intersection. The face of each shield is illuminated with between two and four Philips Color Kinetics ColorGraze MX4 RGBW linear fixtures mounted vertically to the pole supporting the adjacent shield. A total of 545 fittings are utilised throughout Sky Ribbon. Light Application worked in conjunction with the artist to create a number of dynamic lighting shows representing themes of flight, lightness, flow and movement.

Light Application’s customer service has been excellent to the MRA, often working to short time frames to deliver complex solutions in a demanding public open space environment. They have remained responsive and engaged as our lighting capacity and designs have evolved over time to suit different themes and events.

Adam has always been very reliable, professional, enthusiastic and most importantly passionate in making our lighting patterns and designs happen to a high standard, including testing sessions in the rain and getting on roofs to make things happen– couldn’t recommend him enough. Adam has also been responsive to our needs for special programming and custom site theming to work in with different events.
